Food Service Mobile Application

Launching the biggest-ever update to the Gordon Now mobile app

Context:

Current version of the Gordon Now app was created . It had a limited feature scope, low App Store reviews, and little success.

Goal(s)

  • Add ecommerce functionality into our native app

  • Modernize the look and feel of our app and our brand to match shifting customer expectations

  • Integrate user experience into our product development process

  • Profit??

Research + Scoping

We worked with our research partners to determine must-have features that would make or break the success of this app.

Priorities we established were:

  • [get this from relish deck]

Process + Definition

“he who controls the prompt controls the product” - Jesse James Garrett

we had no prompts, we had no product! This was a pilot for introducing user experience

Process we established was

  • product: document existing business requirements

  • ux + product: create feature requests + design tickets

  • ux: design, iterate, and test

  • handoff to dev

basic stuff, but it straight up didn’t exist before

some learnings from this:

  • align on a source of truth!

  • share vocabulary as much as possible

  • don’t get too far ahead

Features

Add to Cart - Testing
Checkout - Requirements
Order Guides - Experimentation

Compromises we made along the way:

Product Indicators - wanted to do a broader refactor of product indicators and attributes, tested well, but caused some concern from other areas of the business. Punted this until post-launch when can more effectively devote someone to change management

Product card design for guides - simplified for MVE launch, will continue to get data, test, learn, and iterate after launch
